Is the redness and pimples on the face acne or rosacea?

April is International Rosacea Awareness Month. Rosacea has become increasingly common in Hong Kong in recent years. Many people think that redness and pimples on the face are acne, but...

Causes of Rosacea and Acne

Rosacea is a chronic skin disease whose exact cause is not yet fully understood, but may be related to immune system disorders, inflammation caused by skin mites ( Demodex Mite ) and their related bacteria. In addition, environmental factors such as diet, sunlight exposure, temperature changes and psychological stress may also trigger rosacea.

Acne is mainly caused by excessive oil secretion of the skin, which combined with dirt, sweat and aging skin cuticles block the pores and lead to the formation of blackheads or closed comedones. Under these conditions, acne bacteria on the skin multiply rapidly, causing an inflammatory response in the hair follicles, resulting in symptoms of pustules, redness, swelling and pain .

Symptoms of Rosacea and Acne

The symptoms of rosacea are divided into 4 stages, concentrated in the middle of the face: cheeks, nose, forehead, chin

Stage 1: Occasional redness of the cheeks, sometimes burning, itching, or stinging

Stage 2: Due to continued dilation of capillaries and inflammation of the skin, persistent redness and blood vessels appear on the cheeks and nose.

Stage 3: Papules or pus-like pustules appear on the skin (blackheads and whiteheads caused by clogged pores are less common)

Stage 4: The facial skin is in a state of congestion and inflammation for a long time, the skin texture becomes thicker and rough, and even rosacea (a big, red nose) may appear.

Acne symptoms may cover the entire face, especially the T-zone (forehead and nose). The initial symptoms are blackheads and whiteheads. After inflammation, they may develop into painful pus-containing acne. The redness will only be around the pus heads. After the acne subsides, pigmentation or scars may be left.

Homemade Probiotics for Self-Help

The causes and symptoms of rosacea and acne are different. The only thing they have in common is that the skin is also in an inflamed state. Persistent inflammation will also cause damage to the skin barrier, forming a vicious cycle and causing the skin condition to become worse and worse.

Probiotics are a gentle yet effective ingredient to fight rosacea and acne. Probiotic extract helps maintain the skin's pH balance and reduce irritation from harmful bacteria, thereby quickly relieving inflamed skin. Studies have shown that topical probiotics can strengthen the skin's defenses, thicken the epidermis, reduce water loss, and speed up the healing process of damaged skin. Long-term use of probiotic skin care products can not only effectively enhance the skin's self-repair ability, but also resist the stimulation of the external environment and allergens, thereby reducing inflammation and improving skin condition.

Basic daily care for rosacea and sensitive skin

Step 1: Gentle cleansing - Probiotic mild amino acid mild cleansing gel

Cleansing your face with probiotics is the first step to balancing your skin and improving your skin barrier. Use the Probiotic Mild Amino Acid Gentle Cleansing Gel in the morning and evening to clean the dirt on the surface of the face. The cleansing gel does not contain SLS/SLES, an ingredient that destroys natural healthy sebum. It can protect the skin's natural beneficial bacterial film and enhance the skin's resistance. It does not cause over-drying issues and the skin remains hydrated after use.

Step 2: Quickly soothes, reduces redness and replenishes moisture - Moisturizing and Balancing Essence

Generally, the barrier of rosacea skin is damaged due to long-term inflammation, which leads to internal moisture loss. Dehydrated skin will slow down its repair ability. Therefore, in addition to calming inflamed skin, adequate moisturizing is also an important part. The moisturizing and balancing essence quickly balances the skin's pH, reduces stimulation from bad bacteria, inhibits inflammatory factors, and instantly relieves skin irritation and burning sensations. Studies have shown that it can relieve and reduce redness by 50% within 30 minutes. The probiotic ingredients in it can increase structural proteins, effectively increase skin thickness, make blood vessels less noticeable, and strengthen the skin barrier; the patented SMART peptides and hyaluronic acid stimulate the production of skin collagen and elastin, quickly hydrate the stressed skin and reduce redness, helping damaged tissues recover faster.

Step 3: Repair the skin barrier and lock in moisture - Gentle anti-inflammatory cream

Use a gentle, calming, anti-inflammatory cream as a protective barrier for the skin, balance the ratio of good bacteria to bad bacteria, and fight inflammation from the source. Contains phospholipids and vitamin B3 to rebuild healthy skin barrier and skin protein structure, reduce stimulation from external allergens, and can continuously improve facial redness caused by rosacea. The texture is light and non-sticky, absorbs quickly and puts no burden on the skin.

Basic daily care for oily acne-prone skin

Step 1: Unclog pores - Probiotic lactic acid brightening lotion

The first step to eliminate acne is to unclog clogged pores. After cleansing, use probiotic lactic acid brightening and renewing liquid to gently exfoliate. 5% lactic acid helps cell renewal and metabolism, accelerates the natural shedding of old cuticles, reduces pigmentation, and restores the skin's natural luster; azelaic acid derivatives help balance oil secretion, reduce clogged pores and acne outbreaks.

Step 2: Focus on acne treatment - salicylic acid antibacterial acne essence

Salicylic acid antibacterial acne essence gently penetrates deep into the pores to clean and unclog them, thoroughly dissolving dirt and oil in the pores, inhibiting acne bacteria and calming inflamed acne. It helps acne quickly disappear without causing excessive drying or peeling of the skin.

Step 3: Refreshing and moisturizing- refreshing moisturizing gel lotion

Oily acne-prone skin is most afraid of skin care products that are sticky and will clog pores, but locking in moisture and moisturizing are equally important. Use refreshing and moisturizing gel lotion as a protective film. The gel texture is non-sticky and can reshape the skin's natural moisture barrier, enhance natural resistance, and improve acne, inflammation and other problems common in oily skin.

We understand that the skin is in a state of long-term inflammation, which can cause rough skin texture, enlarged pores, and dull and uneven skin tone. However, it takes time to completely improve skin problems. The above basic care is only the first step in treatment. Once the inflammation has improved, you can gradually introduce products that improve skin quality and skin tone to further enhance skin health, restore fair and smooth skin, and keep the skin in good condition.
